Redesigning My Personal Website
I recently heard a quote from a famous Sillicon Valley technologist called Naval that made me change my perspective on work and career:
" It's not enough to be good at what you do, you need to consistently show people what you are good at and how you can help them"
I recently redesigned my personal site www.jorgealejandrodiez.com. I wanted to build something from scratch that would showcase my best work and also how I can help companies online.
Among many specs, I'm proud to say that:
- This site gets 100 performance scores across the board on all major search engines, including Google Pages Speed and Google Lighthouse, making it easily accessible anywhere anytime with minimal internet bandwidth. In a 2016 study, Walmart found out that for every 1-second improvement in page load time, conversions increased by 2%, the equivalent of 100s of millions of dollars in added revenue.
- It's built with a headless Content Management System that delivers all of my content through a CDN (meaning no databases or web servers) making it incredibly secure (I don't have to worry about malicious code being injected onto the site ) In the U.S. a data breach costs a company on average $8.19 million, more than twice the global average.
- No hosting fees, being a static website hosting resources to keep this site up are minimal.
- No maintenance, no plugins, no version updates, just continuous deployment and content changes that sync up seamlessly.
Special thanks to Yoimar Urbina for helping me with this build. The tech we used was Gatsby and Netlify CMS. The video was made using Fiverr, if you're interested I can share the link.
